History

1999:ÌýThree community leaders, Mary Wright Shaw, Molly McCrory, and Jean Bacigalupi launched a one-on-one tutoring program to help children who had fallen behind in reading at Belle Haven Community School in Menlo Park, CA in the Silicon Valley

Yes reading logo2001: Our three founders recruited a dedicated group of volunteers to tutor students atÌýa local elementary school—these volunteers quickly recognized the powerful effect of one-on-one attention and in 2001 YES Â鶹¹ÙÍø was incorporated as a 501(c)(3)

2004: YES Â鶹¹ÙÍø hires first full-time executive directorÌýand expands to second school site at Selby Lane Elementary in Redwood City

2007: Program expands to serve schools in the Oakland/East Bay area

2008: YES Â鶹¹ÙÍø expands to serve San Francisco schools

2008: YES Â鶹¹ÙÍø renamed as Â鶹¹ÙÍø200 px Square logo

2008: Â鶹¹ÙÍø expands to Los Angeles, CA

2010: Â鶹¹ÙÍø awarded first AmeriCorpsÌý²µ°ù²¹²Ô³Ù

2010: Â鶹¹ÙÍø expands to Washington, DC, our first expansion outside of CA

2017:ÌýAPA, a leading national education research firm, found that students served by Â鶹¹ÙÍø (particularly English Language Learners) showed significantly greater improvement in their literacy skills than comparison students not served by the program

2017:ÌýÂ鶹¹ÙÍø is recognizedÌýas aÌýbest practice honoreeÌýby the Library of Congress

2018:ÌýÂ鶹¹ÙÍø adopts a new strategic plan

2019:ÌýÂ鶹¹ÙÍø celebratesÌý20 years of impactÌýand introduces a new logo

2020: Â鶹¹ÙÍø quickly adapts to the widespread disrupted learning caused by COVID-19, successfully developing and implementing an innovative online tutoring platform called Â鶹¹ÙÍø Connects

2022: Â鶹¹ÙÍø starts building program licensing and training partnerships with other nonprofits and organizations in an effort to reach even more students and communities.

2024: Â鶹¹ÙÍø has delivered nearly 3 million tutoring sessions to students since 1999
