Â鶹¹ÙÍø has been a part of the Charleston educational landscape since 2013, when we merged with Book Buddies and began placing community volunteers in low-income schools to help kids master basic reading. Our one-on-one tutoring empowers students to succeed in reading and in life by engaging community volunteers to provide individualized, personal attention to each student in our program.

Currently, four out of five South Carolina fourth-graders from under-resourced communities cannot read at grade level. Without strong literacy skills, Charleston’s students won’t have a strong foundation for learning they need to succeed in school and beyond.

Â鶹¹ÙÍø believes that all children deserve the opportunity to succeed. Partnering with our local community members and leaders from local school districts, we’re working towards a future where every child has the individualized support they need to become strong readers and lifelong learners.

Â鶹¹ÙÍø is committed to ensuring that South Carolinians can look forward to a bright future. Working closely with Charleston County and Berkeley County School District leaders, the philanthropic community, and families, Â鶹¹ÙÍø South Carolina serves Title 1 elementary schools across the Lowcountry to deliver one-on-one literacy intervention each week.

Facing a school year of uncertainty due to COVID-19 in 2020-21, Â鶹¹ÙÍø launched Â鶹¹ÙÍø Connects, an innovative digital tutoring platform that uses the same researched-based curriculum as traditional, in-person tutoring. Â鶹¹ÙÍø Connects responds to the immediate need for virtual programming in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic while also expanding the impact and accessibility of our program over the long term. Â鶹¹ÙÍø will also continue to invest in family engagement programs and race equity, diversity, and inclusion training for volunteers, staff, and AmeriCorps members to ensure that we are thoroughly supporting students and communities well into the future.
